Edward V. Nunes, M.D.
Dr. Nunes is a Professor of Psychiatry, and a multiple Principal Investigator of the New York Node of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) clinical Trials Network with a focus on studies of medication and behavioral treatments for substance use disorders and related psychiatric disorders. Current studies and interests include the effect of buprenorphine dose and formulation (injection vs sublingual) on retention in treatment, the effect of digital therapeutics on retention on buprenorphine or methadone treatment, extended release formulations, including implants, of naltrexone for treatment of opioid use disorder, and treatment of co-occurring psychiatric disorders in patient with substance use disoders, including depression, attention deficit disorder, and PTSD. Dr. Nunes is also interested in the challenges involved in implementing evidence-based treatments for substance use disorders in community-based treatments settings. Dr. Nunes serves on the Addiction Medicine Exam Committee of the American Board of Preventive Medicine, and the NIH Working Group on HEAL Initiative.
